I had the enormous pleasure and privilege of a peek behind the scenes at Shepreth Wildlife Park today, and it was the highlight of my week - heck, perhaps even my year. (Except for getting married, of course...)

I got to feed the lemurs and as you can see from the photo it's a very hands-on (that's the lemurs' hands - and feet, and bodies, and noses and mouths) experience. There's loads to see and do at Shepreth - as well as the lemurs there are tigers, foxes, prairie dogs, capybaras, rabbits, donkeys and much more... It's a lovely combination of wildlife park - committed to the conservation of endangered and fragile species - and rescue centre for injured and sick animals. Not far from the tigers is a hedgehog hospital; just across from Juliet, the pony rescued from slaughter more than 20 years ago, is a field full of prairie dogs. It's the park's 25th anniversary next weekend (11 & 12 July) and there's a whole load of celebratory activities going on. Get down there and join in! Visit www.sheprethwildlifepark.co.uk.
